Hippuris Vulgaris (Common Mare’s Tail)
Hippuris Vulgaris
Common Mare’s Tail is is most often found along shallow muddy shores of permanent or near permanent water bodies such as lakes, ponds, and the backwaters of creeks and coulees where it can be seen emerging from beneath the water as shown above. Though flaccid in the water, the emerging aerial heads are erect above the water. It is an oxygen fixer and it’s very aggressive rhizome system is good for stabilization. We recommend it be planted in standing water up to 60 cm or in heavily saturated, soft soil on gently sloping shorelines.
